This session was kind of neat for me. I actually went to school with baby “C’s” mom. We both moved to North Carolina in the late 90’s, but it wasn’t until recently that I learned she was down here as well. She emailed me asking for a one year session for her sweet son “C”. I of course was thrilled. We met at a local park and after briefly catching up we got right to work capturing this special time in their lives. Big sister and brother came along to help entertain and get some smiles out of the birthday for us. I of course couldn’t let them get away without snapping a picture or two of them as well. Mom told me that they weren’t picture ready – not wearing the right clothes or hair done up but I still love the pictures we captured of them. That is everyday life, and it’s important to capture those moments as well. Besides all three are absolutely adorable with the most beautiful brown eyes so any picture of them at all is going to be adorable.
While “C’ wasn’t giving me his famous big smiles, we did manage to get a few out of him. He just wanted to make me work for them, and I did. I danced, sang songs, barked like a dog. You name it – I tried it. I got a few smiles, but more “what are you doing crazy lady” looks too. When it was time for the cake smash, he rocked that. That cake was destroyed in record time, and yet he hardly got any on him at all – except for his hands.
I had so much fun spending time with this family and getting to know them. Mom, you look amazing and just like you did in high school. Your family is beautiful and I’m honored that you chose me to capture these memories. Here is your extra large sneak peek since it will be a little longer than usual for the gallery since we’re headed to Disney next week. Special thanks to my friend Amy back home for the referral. Hopefully next time you are in town visiting you’ll let me capture a few pictures of your beautiful family =)
I love this family! Not only are they great friends with our family but they are great neighbors as well. I of course was more than happy to capture some updated family photos for them. I wasn’t sure how it would go since the little ones know me so well. I figured they would be more interested in playing and checking things out, but boy they surprised me. They did great! I’ll have to admit the out takes are my favorites, but I’ll save those for mom and dad first and then do a blog post later on. It’s funny to see how kids wear exactly how they are feeling right there on their faces, no hiding it. You can easily see at what point in the shoot they were done with it!
I thought I’d do something a little different and fun. I’m going to post a few questions about me – your photographer! We’ll see how well you know me, and maybe learn a few things about me that you didn’t know. If you don’t know the answer, feel free to guess! The person who comments on this post with the most correct answers will win a $25.00 gift certificate to KKP – perfect for a fall/holiday session! I’ll admit, those who frequently follow me on my facebook page will have an advantage here.
1) We’ll start off easy, what kind of photography do I specialize in?
2) What do I shoot with – Canon or Nikon?
3) Where do I work (my real full time job) ?
4) I have two daughters – what are their names?
5) What hat is the most requested/popular at my newborn sessions?
6) I just flew to Boston last week to surprise my grandmother on her birthday – how old is she?
7) What’s my favorite food? I’ll give you a hint, it’s a desert – although I sometimes would love to eat it for dinner =)
** Bonus Point ** Tell me something about YOU that I may not know!
I met this adorable couple on a gray/cloudy morning. The sun couldn’t decide if it was going to come out or not, but at least it didn’t rain! They are expecting a precious little boy in the next few weeks so we incorporated a bunch of boy things into our photo shoot. I especially loved the balloon shots we got. We spent the morning walking around getting to know each other, and capturing this moment in their lives. Dad is big into sports, especially golf. You can bet we will have a golf themed shot when we do their newborn pictures. I love getting a chance to really know my clients before their newborn session. This way I can tailor the session to them and truly personalize it. I can’t wait to meet their sweet baby boy! Thank you for coming out to see me “H” family, especially to “P” for walking around on a bad foot all morning – you were a trooper!
Today was a pretty special day for me, and KKP. I got to photograph this sweet boy on his first birthday. His parents were my very first maternity shoot, and I have had the pleasure of photographing their sweet boy all throughout his first year. We met at the very same spot where we shot their maternity pictures, and no we’ve come full circle. One of mom’s favorite newborn shots was this apple shot. I almost did’t include it in the original gallery as it was far from perfect technically or with posing – but that smile made it a keeper. Jackson was also one of my first newborns so I still had some learning to do. I wanted to recreate this shot for mom today since I know it holds a special place in her heart. We weren’t quite sure if “J” would be up for being stuck in a basket now that he’s off and running, but we were lucky enough to grab a quick shot and a smile before he jumped up and wanted out. Unfortunately I forgot my bag of apples at home, but once again his adorable smile makes up for it not being a perfect shot.
Happy Birthday Jackson! I’ve loved watching you grow over the past year. Thank you mom and dad, I can truly say I’m honored to have gotten to know you and to have captured your beautiful family for 5 sessions now. I’m thrilled to have you as clients, and as friends. Enjoy your sneak peek =)
