My oldest daughter turned 6 this month, which is part of the reason it’s been a little quieter than usual around here. One of my New Year resolutions was to slow down and spent more time with family. Anyone who knows my oldest daughter Olivia knows that she can be shy, and hates being the center of attention. She decided she did not want a big birthday party this year, but did still want a great birthday cake.
It has become a tradition in our house that she gets a birthday cake from Artylicious cakes in Raleigh. It started a few years ago with her amazing Rapunzel cake. Last year we had a Brave birthday cake, and this year – well everything is about the movie Frozen so we had a Frozen birthday cake. Since it was just family and close friends I told Iriene at Artylicious we just needed a simple, small cake and left the design up to her. Once again she did not disappoint. I can’t tell you how much fun it is and how excited both my daughters are to get to see the cake for the first time. Of course everyone loved it. Iriene’s work is amazing and so detail oriented. I absolutely HATE cutting into her cakes, for a few minutes. Then I forget about it when I get to taste how delicious they are. This year we chose one of the newer flavors – cookies and cream. It was awesome, and full of chopped up cookies. It was so good I completely forgot to take a picture of the inside of the cake before everyone gobbled it up. You’ll just have to take my word for it, or go get one and try it yourself.
Here’s a couple quick pictures of the amazing cake. The theme was quite fitting as we got 6 inches of snow on her birthday and were all “Frozen” after playing in it all day =)
So you may remember my sweet friend Iriene from Artylicious cakes. If not you can see her post here: http://www.kristikrusephotography.com/2012/04/11/an-afternoon-with-artylicious-cakes-raleigh-photographer/ . She called me the end of May and told me she was asked to enter a cake to be considered in the June issue of Cake Central Magazine. She had quickly whipped up a beautiful “love birds” cake and now needed pictures to submit. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to take the pictures. Not only would I get the chance to have my work published, but I would get to see another one of Iriene’s amazing works of art and to spend some time with her. After the photo shoot I quickly put it in the back of my mind as summer was approaching and I had a lot on the calendar to keep me busy. One late night while editing and catching up on emails I received an email from Iriene saying we were selected and would printed in the June issue of Cake Central Magazine. I so wanted to scream out loud when I read the email, but was not going to risk waiting my sleeping kids. To say I was over the moon excited would be an understatement. I was not only excited because my work was going be published, but so proud and happy for Artylicious cakes. Her work is go impressive and deserves to be seen by everyone – and now it will.
Head on over to Artylicious cakes and congratulate her. While you’re there, check out her amazing work! You can find her on facebook : https://www.facebook.com/pages/Artylicious-Cakes/172283269496404, or on the web at www.artyliciouscakes.com.
I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon this weekend with Iriene from Artylicious cakes. We met over at the WRAL gardens for a family session which was tons of fun, and then we switched gears and put the spotlight on mom. Remember the post I did on the amazing “Tangled” cake she did for my daughter’s fourth birthday (if not you can check it out here – http://www.kristikrusephotography.com/2012/02/15/tangled-up-in-birthday-fun-raleigh-child-photographer), well now you get to meet the amazing talented woman behind Artylicious cakes. She’s just a sweet as her cakes are, and I’m blown away with her work and details. I find myself at a loss for words other than amazing. I’m so glad that I found her and even more so that I can call her a friend. Here’s an extra large post with showcasing Iriene, who I may just start calling Raleigh’s cake boss!
Make sure to stop by: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Artylicious-Cakes/172283269496404 and artyliciouscakes.com – check her out, leave her some love and enjoy her art!
She’s just as beautiful as her cakes =)
And now for the cakes! Iriene brought two cakes with her to the gardens. Not surprising that a crowd started to quickly gather and admire her work while we were photographing the cakes. Everyone was convinced the flowers on the cakes were real, but they are in fact sugar and 100 percent edible!
Look at these flowers. They look so real. I promise you, they are not. Pure sugar. Amazing detail. I know, I used the word amazing again. I told you, I seriously am at a loss of words to describe these cakes!
And because this sweet lady is not only amazing at making cakes, she’s also an amazing mom. =)
Thank you Iriene for spending the afternoon with me and for sharing your creations with me.
